ASSIGNMENT: WRITING A SCRIPT

 

BEFORE WRITING:

View the following Canadian heritage moment: Baffin Island that explains the history of the Inukshuk.

View other Canadian heritage moments. What criteria did the producers of these segments follow? List those criteria.

Brainstorm some local historical moments in your area or family. For each historical moment, answer the following:
What was the major event? Who was involved? Where did this event take place? When did this event occur? Why was this event important?

WRITING THE SCRIPT (20 marks):

Use the Canadian heritage moment videos as a guide to write a short script of one local historical moment in your area or family. Be sure to include the following:

- stage directions that indicate the time and place of the action, entrances and exits, what the characters are doing on the stage
- details of the setting that lead into the beginning of the script
- dialogue of characters that move the action along
- builds around a believable conflict or problem that makes sense in the lives of the main characters
- music
- directions such as "Blend In," "Cut To," "Fade In," "Fade Out," "Insert," etc. See the link below for an example of a short script and for script terminology.

EXAMPLE OF A SHORT SCRIPT:
View an example of a script for a commercial for wall hooks (an imaginary product).

Become familiar with film script terminology.


OPTIONAL ASSIGNMENT: film your script and submit as a movie file

REVISING:

Do the stage directions clearly indicate time, place, and action?
Is the event and its importance clearly expressed?
